#1 Why a transcontinental run?

There are layers of answers to this question. The simplest, borderline cliche, answer is that I'm supposed to. At least I feel that way. I love running, it brings me peace and teaches me the most useful lessons. And I love my communities. They give me support, joy, and love. So selfishly I want 3 months of running with my communities. I also want others to think about lacing up their shoes and getting involved in running or one of the awesome communities I'm supporting. Make sure to check my blog for the other 10 layers of answers to this question.

#2  I’m really good at something that you might need help with.  What’s the best way to help?

Ah-ha! Are you a physical therapist in Albuquerque or Oklahoma City or St. Louis or Washington D.C. and want to join us for a few days to massage calves?  Are you a graphic designer and want to help with logos and graphics?  Can you make amazingly epic t-shirts and want to help?  We can absolutely use your skills.  Or are you just a passionate person looking to help other passionate people?  We can use that too!  Feel free to contact me and let me know what you are interested in helping with and we’ll find you a place.

#3  I have a business, organization, club, or something else and we would like to donate something to you.  How can I do that?

The organizations we are supporting typically accept cash donations but we can absolutely ensure that your donation goes to fund something particular—see #5 for some awesome examples.

If you are interested in helping with the logistics of the run, we can use that too. We would love to talk to you about how we can you use your….energy gels, bananas, socks, muscle tape, free hotel room, CD mixtapes, gas cards, banners, instant coffee, or anything else you may be willing to donate.  Contact me and we can talk more.

#4  So what exactly do you do with my money?

The donations all go to our 501(c)3 organization "Run Free." From there, some of the money will go directly to support the run - gas, food, water - but hopefully we get a great deal of that donated. Plus we're pretty good at keeping costs low, we'll be driving an awesome renovated 5 ton, so we can sleep in the RV. I can live off potato chip sandwiches (made with love by Becca) and I'll provide my own shoes/equipment! We'll be making donations along route as well - running chairs, farm equipment, cash money to the members and chapters of our organizations.  At the end of the run, after all is said and done, I'll donate the funds to the organizations I’ve listed here. (Anyone know where to get giant checks made?) I'll also provide our cost breakdown so you can see where the dollars went and I can make my mom proud with my thriftiness.

#5 Is it possible to direct my donation to one specific organization, rather than have it divided among all of the organizations you support?

If you would prefer to specify a particular organization for your donation to go towards, the way to make that happen is through the comment section on the crowd-raise page or in the memo section of your check.

Some of the neat ways to sponsor specific organizations in a meaningful ways include:

- a rider chair for Ainsley’s Angels or Team Hoyt, with your business name!

- sponsoring a Veteran Fellow through The Mission Continues

- help support a Gold Star family member for wear blue: run to remember’s Gold Star Race Program

- farm equipment for a Veteran through Farmer Veteran Fellowship Fund from Farmer’s Veteran Coalition

- sponsor a Veteran to hike the Pacific Crest Trail

More information on donations can be found here.

#6  Can I run with you along the way?

You sure can.  We are excited to have anyone who is willing to join us as Maggie runs.  Please be ready provide your own camping items and transportation to link-up with me along the road since the RV driver will likely be busy making me peanut butter & mayo (don't knock it till you try it) and/or potato chip sandwiches along the way.  Send me a message so as we finalize the route I’ll keep you updated so we can make sure you know where to meet me and what our plans will be.  Make you're signed up to receive newsletters and you'll be hearing more about this in the future!

#7 I don't have much money, but I know people who do, does that help?

Sure does. I'm really trying to do this whole adventure with a grassroots feel. I don't want to spend my time or Facebook posts promoting brands I don't care about just because they gave me some money. I want to post about the awesome organizations, the beautiful views, and the good people I meet along the way. So I don't want to go begging companies for money, I'd rather I beg you and you beg your friends :). In all truthiness, I'd like to get as many people involved as possible, in as many ways as possible. If fundraising is your thing, I'd LOVE to have you on the team. And I have a 100 ideas from lemonade stands to penny wars to curse jars to races to small business donations. Contact me or go ahead and set up a fundraising page on our crowd-raise page
